Gravens High Risk Infant Conference

The 23rd Annual Gravens Conference on the Physical and Developmental Environment of the High Risk Infant in collaboration with the March of Dimes is underway.  One of the highlights today was neonatologist Dr. Bjorn Westrup”s session on the Karolinska Family Centered Neonatal Couplet Care. Sweden has set the bar high for famiily centered care. He showed their unit where mother and high risk infant are hospitalized together in a single family room rather than in a separate NICU and separate postpartum unit.  Even a mom on a ventilator was with her high risk infant.  Midwives care for the mom and nurses for the infant. They team up for TRUE couplet care. Impressive!
