Reimagining Childbirth Facilities

Principal Judy Smith participated in the workshop Reimagining Childbirth Facilities in Austin, Texas on April 30 - May 1, 2018. Approximately one hundred participants included OB/GYNs, anesthesiologists, midwives, nurses,  architects, planners, operational specialists, new moms and others. Small groups became “think tanks” that created provocative ways to redesign birth facilities. One emerging theme was to address “how can we create a less medical birth center experience and facilities in a high acuity hospital?”

Reimagining Childbirth Facilities followed the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) Annual Clinical and Scientific Meeting. The workshop was organized by Mazzetti+GBA and facilitated by Catalysis. The Facilities Guidelines Institute was involved in the event and will publish follow-up materials that build on the efforts of the workshop attendees.
