Here is the answer to a recent question:
What will be the hot issues in 2012 for women and children’s health services?
We believed that compassion would be near the top of the list for 2011 and it was. Patients who experience compassion give hospitals the highest ratings - and that helps drive economic viability. Connectivity was our hot issue for 2010, and it continues to be a big topic given the focus on physician alignment, sustainability and new models of care that better integrate families. Clarity is our word for 2012.
Consciously striving for better clarity is a great guiding principle to add to just about everything you do and decide this year. For leaders in women and children’s health, the quest for clarity is increasingly important to their patients, families and staff. Empowered health care consumers lose patience when information about upfront costs, benefits, waiting times, ratings and options is not readily available.
Are we approaching the tipping point of frustration? Six in ten U.S. adult women who are primary health care decision makers indicated that navigating the health care system for themselves and/or their families is at least somewhat difficult, according to an American Academy of Family Physicians study.
Ramping up efforts to strive for clarity, esepcially crystal clear communication, will help differentiate great leaders this year.
