Smith Hager Bajo distributed cards at the “Snowmass” conference that contained some of the top questions asked when planning a women’s center. Here are the answers:

QUESTION ONE: What are five top brand qualities needed to ensure your women center’s future success?

Now and future branding qualities will include:

1) LIFE-CHANGING / LIFE ALTERING:  The patient care experience will evolve from quality and comfort to life-altering through advanced technologies and attentions to painless and total customer-oriented care.

2) GREEN:  There will be a new meaning to the term “hospital greens” as the advanced environmentally sensitive hospital will be sought out by discerning consumers.

3) HEAD OF THE CLASS:  Health grades will direct patients to hospitals that excel in the measured areas of quality.

4) OPTIMAL WELLNESS ORIENTED:  More corporations realize the impact of obesity, diabetes and other controllable physical conditions on their employees and their out of control health care premiums. They are looking to the hospital for the leadership position in getting their employees into top health.

5) INTERNATIONALLY COMPETITIVE:  More US customers are going outside of the country to places such as India and Thailand for lower cost and more personal care. Some insurance companies consider these foreign hospitals as “in network” because of their lower costs. US hospitals will face even more global competition in the future or will need to open their own hospitals outside of the US.

QUESTION TWO: What two green ideas would help make the 21st Century women’s and NICU facilities more sustainable designs?

1) SPECIFY LOW- OR NO- VOLATILE ORGANIC COMPOUNDS (VOC) MATERIALS, including urea-formaldehyde-free adhesives, for all furnishings. Specifically ask about the glues and adhesives in counters, the chemicals in plywood and particle board, the flooring and anything that looks like PVC - polyvinyl chloride.

2) SPECIFY FURNISHINGS AND MATERIALS FROM REGIONAL SOURCES (within a 300 – 500 mile radius) whenever possible. They not only provide support for the local community, but also reduce the amounts of fossil fuels necessary for transport.

QUESTION THREE:  Name three key operational processes to revise for more efficient women’s outpatient services in the future:

1) Develop a transition plan to Open Access scheduling

2) Transition to the availability of on-line scheduling

3) Develop a consistent provider scheduling process for all clinics
